What this setup creates
A male model is lit with a red strip light on one side and a blue spotlight on the other, creating a dramatic split-toned portrait. The setup highlights the model's physique against a dark background.
Light placement
Key Light (Blue): Model Right (Camera Left), slightly forward of the model. Secondary Light (Red): Model Left (Camera Right).
How to build it
The blue light acts as the primary illumination on one half of the body. The blue tone enhances the cool, sculpted look while preserving muscle definition. Position it slightly forward of the model so the light wraps just enough across the face and torso without eliminating the split. The RGB stick light creates the second half of the split lighting. The narrow source keeps the red illumination controlled while producing a strong color contrast against the blue. Together, both lights create a clean red-blue split that separates both sides of the body and adds depth without requiring additional modifiers. Dark grey seamless paper keeps all attention on the subject while making both RGB colors appear richer and more saturated.
